VIEWERS can just never seem to get enough of murder mystery series and Anna Samson is proud of how quickly Return to Paradise has found its place in the beloved genre.

“It's a show about kindness,” says the former Home and Away star, 35, who plays DI Mackenzie Clarke in the crime comedy drama.

She continues: “There aren't many places in our world where the baddie is caught and justice is served, and this is an hour of television where that happens. I think maybe we need that at the moment.”

In the second series, which arrives on our screens on Friday, we find DI Clarke - the first lead female detective in the Death in Paradise universe, or Para-verse - still stuck in her hometown of Dolphin Cove, tasked with solving more challenging cases, while grappling with her ex-fiancé, Glenn (played by Australian actor Tai Hara, also 35) saying he still has feelings for her.

We follow as Mackenzie gets back to work in the lab with her senior constable Colin Cartwright (played by Grimsby-born actor and comedian Lloyd Griffith, 41), to examine a key piece of evidence in their latest investigation. But Mackenzie's attempt to ignore Glenn’s upcoming wedding is challenged when Colin helps to arrange his stag party.

Ahead of the show’s return, Anna, Lloyd and Tai discuss how well Return to Paradise has been received.

How does this series explore the concept of home being where the heart is?
