Lecturers ditch strike action as threat of redundancy is lifted

University staff in Dumfries called off strike action after the threat of compulsory redundancies was taken off the table.

Members of the Educational Institute of Scotland University Lecturers’ Association and University and College Union Scotland at the University of the West of Scotland had staged a series of walkouts over proposed redundancies and staffing cuts.

Further strikes had been planned at UWS campuses - including the Crichton in Dumfries as well as in Ayr, Paisley and Blantyre - on Monday and Tuesday this week.

However, those were scrapped after university bosses removed the threat of compulsory redundancies at a meeting on Friday.
