DERBY-BASED FIRM WILL WORK TO GET THE TIMEPIECE BACK TO WORKING ORDER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE

Specialists on the case to get stopped clock ticking

THE clock at Derby's Guildhall Theatre will be fixed as soon as possible, say council chiefs, amid plans to resurrect the whole structure.

Derby City Council has confirmed the clock has stopped and specialists have been out to assess the cause.

A city council spokesperson said: “We are aware the Guildhall clock has stopped and are working to restore it as quickly as possible.

“Specialists from Smiths of Derby have been commissioned to assess the cause and carry out any necessary repairs.”

Meanwhile, a new planning application has been submitted outlining the next steps to bring the Derby city centre venue back into public use with a transformational revival, worth almost £25 million.

The 19th-century Market Place venue has been closed since 2019, when safety concerns forced its doors to shut and the stage curtain to be drawn.
