THE FIRST RESULTED IN THOUSANDS OF RESPONSES ON PLAN TO INSTALL 60km OF PYLONS ACROSS COUNTY

- By ZENA HAWLEY

A SECOND consultation is due to start on controversial plans by National Grid for 50m-high pylons snaking across the Derbyshire countryside.

The grid is looking upgrade its 60km 400kV powerline between Chesterfield and Willington known as The Great Grid Upgrade.

The initial consultation in 2024 led to thousands of responses and the formation of campaign groups trying to ward off the plan.

National Grid is keen to point out that the first consultation has led to some changes in proposals including:

■Identifying and sharing a more detailed route for the overhead line between Chesterfield and Willington

■Presenting an alternative route option between Astwith and Alfreton, to the east of the area previously shared during the first consultation, avoiding sensitive locations such as the River Amber valley, Ogston Reservoir and nearby listed buildings including Ogston Hall

■Proposals for a new high voltage substation in the Chesterfield area, located close to the existing Chesterfield substation
