Rowett's reign at U's ended

FORMER Derby County manager and defender Gary Rowett has been sacked by Oxford United.

Oxford, who languish 22nd in the Championship two points from safety, have won only once in their previous 10 fixtures and have managed only four League wins throughout the entire campaign.

Consequently, the club issued a statement yesterday announcing Rowett's departure as boss. Former Rams defender Craig Short has been placed in interim charge.
