Recycling centre fire blamed on battery

FIREFIGHTERS have revealed a blaze that tore through a recycling centre in Ilkeston over the weekend was probably caused by discarded batteries.

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, along with crews from Nottinghamshire, were called to a fire at Ward Recycling Centre in Crompton Road, Ilkeston, at 4.14pm on Saturday.

Crews used a hose jet and onsite machinery to pull apart the burning material, which was a pile of waste recycling.
