COLLECTION OF HERITAGE AIRCRAFT WILL ALSO BE ON DISPLAY NEXT MONTH

- By SOPHIE BUSCIMESE

THE famous Red Arrows are set to fly past East Midlands Airport as part of celebrations for the 60th anniversary of the airport's opening.

An extended weekend of fun days will mark the anniversary of HRH the Duke of Edinburgh officially opening the airport on July 21, 1965.

Between July 19 and 21, East Midlands Airport will host an open weekend in partnership with East Midlands Aeropark, the aviation museum and airport viewing area near Castle Donington.

A collection of heritage aircraft will be opened up for visitors, as well as viewing spots within the Aeropark where planes arriving and departing the airport can be watched.

Next to the Red Arrows, the RAF's Battle of Britain Memorial Flight unit will take part in a flypast of the airport.
