PAIR SENTENCED BY COURT AFTER ENVIRONMENT AGENCY SAYS SITES POSED FIRE RISK

- By OSCAR FISHER

A FATHER and son have avoided jail after admitting to illegally importing, processing and burning waste at two Derbyshire sites.

Derby Crown Court heard Keith Mrvik and his son, Leon, processed waste at sites without having an environmental permit, avoiding substantial permitting and waste disposal charges

The pair admitted to importing waste between November 4, 2019, and December 23, 2021, at Draycott House Farm, and between April 25, 2020, and August 12, 2021, at Ayreshire Fields Farm.

The properties were owned by the Mrviks who at the time of the offending were involved in skip hire, waste transfer and scrap metal through KLM Skip Hire.

Environment Agency officers visited the sites in 2020 and 2021.

After failing to locate the residents, a drone was flown over Draycott House Farm, but the flight was abruptly terminated due to gunshots being fired at it.
