DRIVER SENTENCED FOR CAUSING THE DEATH OF MOPED RIDER

- By ZENA HAWLEY

THE family of a 19-year-old moped rider have described the “permanent and profound devastation” his death has had on their lives.

A suspended prison sentence has been handed to Emily Elverson, who pulled her car out in front of Isaac Hall causing the collision which led to his death.

Isaac, who was described as “exceptional, mature and loving” during the hearing at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court, was riding his moped along Ascot Drive just before 6pm on June 13, 2024 when the fatal collision occurred.

Elverson, 28, of Burton, pulled out of the junction at Dunstall Park Road in her white Audi A1. Isaac collided with the side of the car - leaving him unconscious and not breathing.

Members of the public rushed to him and began CPR before an ambulance quickly arrived. He was rushed to the Royal Derby Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Elverson, who had just finished a shift as a contact management call handler, stopped at the scene and provided a negative drink and drug test. She was arrested and interviewed, where she described how she was making a hands-free call to her boyfriend at the time of the collision.

Her own dashcam footage showed her slow momentarily before pulling out into the path of Mr Hall, who lived in Alvaston.
