THERE HAD BEEN A PETITION CALLING FOR LICENSING APPLICATION TO BE REFUSED

- By ZENA HAWLEY

A NEW convenience store at a former Co-op shop will be allowed to open on a Derby street despite anti-social behaviour concerns being raised by some local residents.

Derby City Council’s general licensing sub committee has granted a premises licence for ATS Convenience Store to open on Chellaston Road, in Shelton Lock, following a hearing held last Friday.

A hearing was held because of concerns sent to the council and a 26-name petition calling for the authority to refuse the licensing application as it stood.

The application was submitted to the city council in March on behalf of proposed premises licence holder Thivakar Pakkiyaraja and called for opening times of the new shop to be between Monday and Sunday, 7am to midnight.

It also called for alcohol sales in the shop to be within the same hours.
