MANY RESIDENTS ARE 'STRONGLY AGAINST' PROPOSALS FOR LOWER SPEED LIMIT
QUESTIONS whether or not a busy Derby road should become a new 20mph zone have received a strong “no” from nearby residents.
Derby city councillor Carmel Swan confirmed people's views were sought over lowering the speed limit on Kedleston Road close to its approach to the Five Lamps area.
As well as Kedleston Road, public opinion has also been sought on whether 20mph limits could be enforced on at least six surrounding streets which have received more favourable feedback.
Darley councillor Ms Swan, who is also the city council's cabinet member for transport and environment, said door-knocking about 20mph zones in the Kedleston Road area has been going on for about two weeks.
She said there was “strong support” for the side streets to have a lower speed limit.
However, those she has spoken to so far have been strongly against plans for any changes to Kedleston Road due to its busy and high-traffic nature.
The councillor said the council will listen to what people want and don't want.
