Clampdown on lorries using 'fragile' roads through city

CAMERAS aimed at improving pedestrian safety and limiting the number of lorries passing through an area of Derby have been installed.

- By NIGEL SLATER Local democracy reporter

Earlier this year talks were held between councillors and Derby City Council chiefs to discuss a weight limit restriction for heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) in Spondon.

Investigations were sought to introduce a limit following regular complaints about heavy traffic in the area with Spondon's road network described as "extremely fragile".

Parents also told the Local Democracy Reporting Service that pedestrians were "in danger" and that Spondon was "too small" for the some HGVs to pass through.
