Charleston bar plan brings interest to old bank

A GRADE II-listed former Royal Bank of Scotland building in the heart of the Peak District will reopen its doors next year, with clerks and cash to be replaced by cocktails and casks.

After months of speculation, Longbow Venues has officially revealed the name and concept behind its latest hospitality venture: The Charleston.

The bar and restaurant is set to open in early 2026, taking inspiration from the "exuberance" of the 1920s and incorporating speakeasy and jazz concepts from the iconic prohibition age.

The company is investing £2.5 million in transforming the imposing sandstone building, retaining original features such as tall ceilings and arched windows.

It will also see the introduction of warm lighting and bold designs, similar to what visitors would expect in The Great Gatsby, and will be complemented by dining, cocktails, coffees and ales from the Peak District and Derbyshire.
