A DERBYSHIRE cheesemaker has announced the launch of its new ‘Hartington Bomber’ cheese to coincide with the 80th anniversary of VJ Day tomorrow.

'Bomber' cheese commemorates bravery of Far East forces for VJ Day

The launch by Hartington Creamery is “a tribute to the bravery and resilience of the men and women of the Greatest Generation, who served in the Far East during the Second World War”.

VJ Day, which marks Japan's surrender and the official end of the Second World War, is a time for national remembrance.

While VE Day in May saw the end of the conflict in Europe, thousands of British and Commonwealth forces were still engaged in bitter fighting until August 15, 1945.
