BID TO LET EIGHT PEOPLE LIVE IN SIX-BED HOUSE PULLED OVER RESIDENTS’ CONCERNS

- By NIGEL SLATER

A CONTROVERSIAL plan to increase the occupancy of a shared house on a “filthy” Derby estate has been withdrawn after objections were raised.

Go 4 It Developments wanted permission to allow eight people to live in a six-bedroom House of Multiple Occupation (HMO) on Stepping Lane.

But last year there was a public outcry regarding a high concentration of HMOs in the New Zealand area of Derby.

Parts of the area were dubbed “filthy” by angry residents who called for change, saying the number of HMOs was causing issues such as fly-tipping and parking problems.

A public meeting was held almost a year ago following concerns which came in light of a different planning application for an HMO on Howe Street.
