Teen sentenced to 25 years for the murder of Deveney Nel

THE Western Cape High Court on Friday sentenced an 18-year-old boy to 25 years of direct imprisonment following his confession to the murder of Deveney Nel.
National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila said her mother, Lida Nel, and the investigating officer, Detective Warrant Officer Louw, were consulted before the sentence agreement was concluded, and they agreed with the sentence.
Deveney's lifeless body was found on 7 August 2024, in the storeroom of Hoërskool Overberg in Caledon. She had allegedly been stabbed to death by the fellow pupil.
Her mother reported her missing after failing to return home to Grabouw following the school’s sports day.
