German saves Reds but 'goal' is an OG

- BY JEREMY CROSS

LIVERPOOL finished another game looking clueless and useless as Arne Slot's nightmare season continued at Anfield.

The saying goes that Black Cats bring bad luck.

But Liverpool had themselves to blame - instead of superstition - for needing a late own goal from Nordi Mukiele to stop Sunderland from securing their first league win on this ground in more than four decades.

Chemsdine Talbi looked to have piled more pain on Liverpool with a deflected secondhalf strike.

It was just his second goal since joining Sunderland in the summer - and it will be one he will remember for a long time.

Florian Wirtz rode to the rescue 10 minutes from time, with a shot that deflected off Mukiele, to prevent more humiliation for the hosts.
