Osula cracker sends United crashing

SUPERSUB William Osula smashed home a late winner for 10-man Newcastle as Michael Carrick's bold hopes of a Manchester United title bid fell at the first hurdle.

Interim boss Carrick suggested this week that United could make a belated surge for the crown after moving into the top three.

But he suffered his first defeat as United left Tyneside with nothing to show for their efforts despite Newcastle's Jacob Ramsey being sent off before halftime.

Ramsey was shown a second yellow card for diving (right, Ramsey reacts after being shown the red card by referee Peter Bankes) as he tried to win a penalty from Senne Lammens in first-half added time.

A minute later and Newcastle did get a penalty when Anthony Gordon was clumsily tripped by Bruno Fernandes before stepping up to fire the spot-kick straight down the middle.

But in the ninth-minute of first-half added time, Casemiro headed home Fernandes’ free-kick to cap a dramatic end to the opening 45 minutes and send United in level.
