Marauding Philippe was the Belgian trailblazer

WELCOME along to a brand-new Starsport column.

Foreign Legion is here to celebrate the overseas stars who have graced the Premier League and the memories they gave us.

But we are not talking about the best players here - we mean the mavericks, the nutters and the cult heroes.

The first stop on our round-the-world trip down memory lane takes us to Belgium.

Now any celebration of Belgian brilliance could easily feature Kevin De Bruyne, Vincent Kompany or Eden Hazard but that is not what this column is about.

Step forward Mr Philippe Albert, a moustache-sporting trailblazer who paved the way for many of his compatriots to play on these shores.

He arrived in England in 1994 when Newcastle paid Anderlecht £2.6m for his services after an impressive World Cup in America, becoming the Premier League's first Belgian player in the process.
