Max foils Ferraris for perfect 10

- SIMON CASS

NO STAPPEN HIM NOW

A FERRARI battle for the ages at their spiritual Monza home - but when the chequered flag was waved there was only one man making history.

The 80,000-strong crowd had poured into the famous old circuit praying that pole sitter Carlos Sainz, or even Charles Leclerc from third on the grid, could finally put the brakes on Max Verstappen.

But once the Dutchman had pulled out of Sainz's slip stream around the outside of the Curva Grande there was only ever going to be one outcome - a record 10th consecutive win for Verstappen, with Red Bull team-mate Sergio Perez in second.

Still, at least there was a Ferrari man on the podium for the locals to cheer after an epic afternoon's work by Sainz.
