KING Charles has laid out plans for a new independent football regulator.

The Government watchdog will "safeguard the future of football clubs for the benefit of communities and fans", Charles announced in his first King's Speech as monarch.

It was one of a raft of new laws announced in the Speech - the first by a king in seven decades - which sets out the Government's legislation plans for the year ahead.
