Indonesian qualifier Janice Tjen, 23, (right) caused her own Big Apple shock in the first round by beating Russian No.24 seed Veronika Kudermetova in her first main draw match at a major.

It was the first Grand Slam singles win by an Indonesian player for 22 years.
