Doors key to the past

The ancient Egyptians created false doors in tombs as portals to the afterlife.

2 The world's oldest discovered door dates back 5,100 years, the era when Stonehenge was built. Made of wood, it was found during excavations for a car park in Zurich, Switzerland.

3 Britain's oldest door is inside Westminster Abbey, leading to the Chapter House and still in use. The five-panelled oak structure originated in the 1050s during the reign of Edward the Confessor.
