Prize idiots

SHOWBIZ’S biggest stars will be gathering tonight for the BAFTA Film Awards, with movies like Hamnet and Sinners up for the coveted gongs.

The ceremony, Britain’s answer to the Oscars, will be hosted by actor Alan Cumming at the Royal Festival Hall in London.

But over the years the awards have seen some wild and wacky moments, as JAMES MOORE recalls in our Gaftas special...

Hurtful outburst:

Screen legend John Hurt, famous for his roles in movies like Alien, won five BAEFTAs during his career. But in 1989 he got into a spat with photographers and ended up throwing a punch. He missed and fell over.
