HEAD IN THE GAME Root to focus on mental approach

JOE ROOT says he is "mentally focused" ahead of the The Ashes as he bids to end his century hoodoo.

Root has never scored a hundred in 14 Tests in Australia, where he has a respectable 35.68 average. Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting this week backed Root to get over the line but added it will be "a mental thing for him more than anything else".
