We must spend to reduce poverty

JOHN Swinney said reducing the number of kids growing up in poverty would be his No1 priority after he became First Minister.

But a worrying report out today shows Scotland is on course to miss a child poverty reduction target by a wide margin.

Back in 2017, the SNP government set targets to cut child poverty to 18 per cent by 2024/25 and to 10 per cent by 2030/31. The respected Joseph Rowntree Foundation says it does not expect the 2030 target to be met.
