Watchdog finds force deputy misled victim's family about shooting suspect's arrest date

A TOP cop misled the family of murdered banker Alistair Wilson, a police watchdog has ruled.

Alistair was gunned down on the steps of his home in Nairn, in November 2004, while his wife and then two young sons were inside.

Nobody has been caught for the crime and police chiefs have held several meetings with the family to update them on the investigation.

But a watchdog has now ruled that Police Scotland's Deputy Chief Constable Bex Smith gave false information to wife Veronica and their son Andrew at separate meetings in September and October 2023 over the cancelled arrest of a suspect.
