TWO-CHILD CAP 'WRONG'

THE Scottish Secretary has branded the two-child benefit cap "wrong" amid speculation the Labour government is considering axing it.

In a strong hint he backs abolition of the policy, brought in by the Tories, Douglas Alexander said he hoped the "right decision" would be made within weeks.

He also promised to be a “loud voice’ in Cabinet for strong measures combating child poverty.

The cap, introduced in 2017, limits some means-tested benefits to the first two children.

It has been blamed for plunging hundreds of thousands of children into poverty, but Labour has kept it on the grounds of cost.
