President's claim as Ukraine leader is left out of summit

DONALD Trump has revealed Volodymyr Zelensky is not invited to his summit with Vladimir Putin, claiming he has done nothing in the three years since Russia's invasion.

US President Trump criticised the Ukrainian leader ahead of Friday's meeting in Alaska as it emerged Kyiv could agree to stop fighting and cede territory already held by Moscow as part of a Europe-backed plan for peace.

Speaking about why Zelensky was snubbed, Trump said in a White House briefing: “He wasn't a part of it.

“I would say he could go but he’s gone to a lot of meetings. You know, he’s been there for three-and-a-half years.

“Nothing happened.”

Trump said the summit with Putin would be a first step in assessing whether an agreement to end the war is possible.
