Watt a cheek as Jags ace claims second goal after 'backheel volley' wins tie

THE TONY AWARD OPER Block 7.

AT first it appeared the striker doth protest too much during Tony Watt's post-match claim of a final touch for Partick Thistle's second goal against Ayr.

Good-humoured, adamant and holding court as he tried to convince anyone whod listen that it was him and not Logan Chalmers who should be credited on the scoring front.

Not content with being confirmed by referee Ryan Lee after the game that he had indeed diverted his teammate's 20-yarder into the net, Watt went as far as describing his dubious ricochet as a backheel volley!

The 31-year-old - now at his 15th club - said: "It's my goal, I touched it.

"Logan Chalmers gave me it, he said it touched me and he was happy with the assist.

"I thought that's my goal but I knew I'd ran off their defender, so I thought I'd maybe run offside.

"I acted as though I hadn't touched it, so I didn't claim it but waited until the ref blew his whistle for the goal and then you claim it.

"You don't want to go, 'That's my goal' and then it's 1-0 again.

"I need to claim it, I was saying to the boys it was a backheel volley but it genuinely took a nick off me.
