Boyband's tears as they recall world crashing down | Ronan rage at Louis who tried to 'ruin my career'
THE tears start to stream just moments after the credits roll on the first episode. "We were put on private jets, in five-star hotels... but would I put my children through it? No I wouldn't," says Boyzone star Keith Duffy, his voice faltering.
His moment of vulnerability came at the world premiere of a new Sky documentary about the band in London.
The three-part show, Boyzone: No Matter What, promises a look at the "fame, fall-outs and tragedy" of the group dubbed the Irish Take That.
After forming in 1993, the boys enjoyed whirlwind success with a string of hit songs that sold in their millions.
But their world came crashing down after Stephen Gately's death in 2009 from a hereditary heart condition.
Watching the documentary back continues to be a painful experience for bandmate Ronan Keating.
"It's very, very raw. I have watched it 50, 60 times and every time I cry," he said.
But for one man, the documentary may prove more painful than most.
Their former manager Louis Walsh comes under particular scrutiny for his role in Boyzone's story.
He recalls: "Sometimes, the boys would read stories in the papers about themselves that weren't true and they would say, 'Who told them that?' 'I did"
Ronan says: "He believed that any story was a good story. He would make up stories constantly about the band, about relationships with girlfriends that were non-existent."
