Sonay side up for Beijing breakthrough

SONAY KARTAL produced the biggest victory of her career over Mirra Andreeva to reach the China Open quarterfinals.

The 23-year-old from Brighton toppled world No.5 Andreeva 7-5 2-6 7-5 in Beijing. It is the first time Kartal - who now overtakes Katie Boulter as British No.2 - has beaten a top-10 player and the first time she has reached the last eight at a WTA 1000 event.
