Soil guru is outstanding in her field

A STRING of other Scots to be honoured include a forensic scientist who helped solve some of the country’s worst crimes, a conservationist and a former MP.

Lorna Dawson, head of forensic science at the James Hutton Institute, said she was "humbled and delighted” to have been given a damehood for services to soil and forensic science.

Her work discovering tiny soil particles helped convict World's End monster Angus Sinclair and she already has a CBE.

Lorna said it “recognises the power of scientific innovation, partnership and how forensic soil science can support justice on a national and global scale”.
