Slow and behold

JANUARY 1 and 2 is one of the few periods in the year when the world genuinely slows down.

Work emails are quiet, phones aren't buzzing, and for once it feels like pretty much everyone is off at the same time.

No alarms, no rushing, no sense you should be anywhere else.

A nice easy start to the year - there's Christmas books to be read, gift vouchers to be spent freshening up your flybox or tackle supplies.

If the closest thing to an appointment is with steak pie for lunch, that's a good way to kick the year off.

New Year's Day is a much fresher affair these days than it once was.

Certainly less bleary eyed, it's a nice steady start to the year and wherever possible a few hours out on the bank.
