Hitman Murray's off to a flier as his first-minute header wins it for Dee
-
IT was 69 years in the making as Dundee finally got the upper hand in a derby in the Scottish Cup.
Lifelong fan Simon Murray was the home hero as his early goal saw off United and booked the Dark Blues' place in the fifth round where Airdrie await.
Dundee had last beaten their rivals in this competition in 1956 - a year when Dundonian Dick McTaggart had landed gold in the Olympics.
It was Tony Docherty's side who glittered last night.
United had won the last seven games but that run finally came to an end.
That is one hoodoo buried.
Could the Dens men bury another one and go all the way in a competition they haven't won since 1910? It was a big game under the lights. You have to put this into context. The last time Dundee won a cup game against United, floodlights were introduced into Scottish football for the first time when Rangers beat Queen of the South at Ibrox.
The good thing for the Dark Blues is their cup campaign is still shining but the lights have been well and truly put out across the road.
Both sides made one change for this big one.
Dundee brought in Lyall Cameron for Josh Mulligan while United introduced Louis Moult for Glenn Middleton.
The Terrors were also able to name new signings Lewis Fiorini and Ruari Paton, who had signed earlier in the day, on their bench.
There was a minute's applause to celebrate the lives of Denis Law and Jimmy Calderwood before Dundee's fans were up off their seats again in the first minute when their team stormed into the lead.
