YOUR VOICE OF THE JAMBOS EVERY WEEK IN RECORD SPORT

RYAN STEVENSON

I'LL be honest. For the first time in my life I've been struggling with football over these last four or five years. I simply don't like what it’s becoming.

The game I know has been infiltrated by too many BS artists.

Too many buzz words. Too much meaningless jargon. And too many folk who seem determined to reinvent the wheel. If you question them or their methods, you're a dinosaur.

If you point out that the wheel has been working just fine for as long as time, they look at you as if you've got horns growing out of your head.

And that’s one of the major reasons why I’ve hardly stopped smiling since Derek McInnes and Hearts went to Ibrox at the weekend and came away with the win which has made so many people in this country finally sit up and take notice of what's really going on at Tynecastle these days.

For the best part of two years now I've been banging Del's drum for the job.

It was obvious to me that he was the best option.

Maybe it was too obvious for the very people who like to make out as if football is more complicated than it really has to be.

I'm just thrilled that Hearts got there in the end and did the right thing.

Even when he was appointed there were some fans saying things like, 'Oh well, at least he'll steady the ship!'. That annoyed me.

Derek McInnes was never going to be content with steadying any ships.

This is a guy who wants to sail across the Atlantic.
