Even super John McGinn needs break but he's fresh for this Scotland test

- SCOTT MCDERMOTT

I've had my rest stop..now let's get to our destination

HE'S an Aston Villa icon and inspirational captain.

For Scotland, he's our talisman.

Our go-to guy whenever Steve Clarke's side needs a lift.

But even super John McGinn needs a rest sometimes.

And the 30-year-old midfielder admits himself that towards the end of last season, he'd lost a bit of his mojo.

The goals had dried up for club and country. Even his legendary backside wasn't doing as much damage as it used to.

But McGinn hit the reset button over the summer.

A lengthy, well-earned break helped him recharge the batteries.

And now he believes he's got his spark back again.

He has almost single-handedly reignited Villa's season with three goals in his last four games for Unai Emery Which is perfect timing for Clarke and Scotland as McGinn now wants to turbocharge our bid to reach the World Cup.

He's bang in form ahead of the huge double-header against Greece and Belarus this week.

And feeling as fit as he's ever been, McGinn insists he's raring to go.

He said: "Maybe it was the longer rest over the summer. I had twoand-a-half weeks of pretty much doing nothing.

"Then I went to America and did my own individual training camp to try to get myself in better shape.

"I wanted to be fresh and ready to go for the new season.

"I had a good pre-season too. The start to the campaign for Villa hasn't been perfect.
