Fans' takeaway goes from stale stale to hail hail

- BY DAVID MCCARTHY

THIS could turn out to be the most significant result of Celtic's season, given that halfway through last night's visit of Sturm Graz they were staring a crisis in the face.

One-nil down and with Kelechi Iheanacho and Alistair Johnston back in the dugout injured inside 23 minutes, Brendan Rodgers' team was in big trouble.

Before a ball had been kicked they'd won only seven of their first 14 games this season - or seven in 16 if you throw in the last two matches of the previous season.

And when Tomi Horvat struck an absolute stunner high past Kasper Schmeichel to give the Austrians the lead shortly after Iheanacho's replacement Johnny Kenny had almost put the Hoops in front a rocky start to their Europa League was looking a whole lot worse.

Fair play to the Hoops, they rallied before the break with Arne Engels seeing a header cleared off the line and Benjamin Nygren missing an absolute sitter.

The goal didn't come before they headed down the tunnel but the intention was clear.

This was a team that had come back from a goal down in Europe only once in their past 78 attempts - against Lazio six years ago today - but last night they dug deep to win with two goals in three minutes around the hour.
