Breezy does it for home hero Bob

- BY JIM BLACK

BOB MacINTYRE is threatening to end a 20-year wait for a home winner of the Dunhill Links Championship.

The Oban ace produced one of the rounds of his life in appalling conditions of wind and rain at Kingsbarns yesterday.

Colin Montgomerie, in 2005, was the last Scot to triumph in the £3.7million pro-am tournament in the footsteps of compatriots Paul Lawrie and Stephen Gallacher.

But MacIntyre clearly fancies his chances after conjuring up the “perfect golf shot” on his way to a second successive 66 and a share of top spot before play was abandoned in late afternoon.

MacIntyre will begin round three today at the Old Course on 12-under-par, the same as South African Richard Sterne.

But play is not certain to resume with an 8am shotgun start for those players who have still to complete their second rounds after the media centre was evacuated last night over safety fears.
