Actor recalls big break and tells how he owes it all to Uncle Denis

- BEVERLEY LYONS

EWAN McGregor has told how he “blacked-up" for his first acting role but admits it should “never have happened”.

The Perthshire-born star, now 54, says his first big break in local theatre playing an Indian character would no longer be acceptable.

Ewan told how he quit school in fifth year and got his first role with a local theatre company a week later.
