Sizzling 66 puts Forrest in lead

GRANT FORREST took route 66 to a new course record at Trump International to establish a one-shot lead at halfway yesterday in the Nexo Championship.

The North Berwick-based links specialist reeled off seven birdies in a stunning display of ball control despite once again having to cope with strong winds.

Yet, Forrest, 32, described his six-under round to move to seven-under ahead of Englishman Jordan Smith (69) as only the second best of his career.

He said: "That was probably second best to my third round at the Fairmont when I won in 2021. I shot 10 under and it started windier than it was today and got even windier. So that one was a bit special. But this round is definitely up there.
