HOSPITAL care faces fresh pressure from striking doctors, the First Minister warned yesterday.

John Swinney stressed he "obviously" wants to avoid industrial action but told resident doctors preparing for action: "I can't put offers on the table that the government can't afford."

The First Minister spoke out on the issue ahead of talks between Health Secretary Neil Gray and the British Medical Association.
