NEIL McCANN jokes Findlay Curtis must have thought he was in bother when his Scotland call came through - because he didn't pick up first time.

But the Kilmarnock boss says Curtis's “first class" attitude means he's aware getting the nod for his nation doesn’t make him a certain starter for his club.

The 19-year-old was the surprise inclusion in Steve Clarke's squad for this month's friendlies with Japan and Ivory Coast.

McCann, who has used the winger even as a right-back since arriving on loan from Rangers seven weeks ago, got to break the news.

The 51-year-old, capped 26 times himself, laughed and said: "I think he thought he was in trouble... particularly when he didn't answer my first phone call!

“But once I got to speak to him, his reaction was good, I loved it [breaking the news].

“I didn't want Danny (Rohl) to make it so I got in pretty quick! I say that in jest, of course.
