Gunners’ cult hero Eberechi follows Spurs rejection with treble haul in London derby

EBERECHI EZE had already written his name into Arsenal folklore by turning down Tottenham to move to the Emirates in the summer.

But this was the day when he took his cult-hero status to a whole new level with a hat-trick and a match-winning performance to stamp Arsenal's authority all over the title race.

Eze said: “That's a good one man. Enjoyable day. Happy to help the team and to win today was a special.

“It’s special. I am grateful. I prayed for it. This is what I pray for. I prayed for a hat-trick so I am grateful to God.

“That was the prayer today. God gave it to me and that is faith, man. All my family is here and that makes it even more special for me.”

On his goals, he added: “They are all good. Maybe the second one.

“That was my favourite. All of them are good for me because I have been working on the process to get in that position so that’s good again. It is special. Words can’t explain this one.”

Arsenal did not just embarrass Tottenham but they also put themselves six points clear at the top, seven ahead of third-placed Manchester City and 11 above reigning champions Liverpool.

The Gunners were missing three key players, Gabriel, Viktor Gyokeres and Martin Odegaard, from their starting lineup - and they were still a class apart.
