IT'S fitting the Club World Cup is being held in Donald Trump's America as the rampant greed that has left an ugly scar on the beautiful game spirals out of control.

A staggering £775million prize pot will be split between the 32 teams taking part, with the winners banking a cool £97m.

That has turned a tournament that was once considered a nuisance by Europe's top clubs into a valuable source of income and the money men are desperate to bank as big a cheque as possible.

That's why the giants have been tooling up for their shot at glory this summer with Real Madrid paying Liverpool a ludicrous £10m to snap up Trent Alexander-Arnold a month before he was set to move on a free transfer.

Manchester City have also spent big to sign Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Cherki and Rayan Ait-Nouri before the deadline for the tournament, boosting their chances of ending a disappointing season in style.

City are the defending Club World Cup champions but they only had to win two games to get their hands on the silverware two years ago, seeing off Urawa Red Diamonds then Fluminense.
