FOR months, Rangers’ summer recruitment splurge looked like it had produced a chronic crop.

- BY FRASER MACKIE

But thanks to shrewd handling of what he inherited, Danny Rohl is helping some maligned Ibrox new boys begin to blossom.

Slowly but surely, the likes of Emmanuel Fernandez, Thelo Aasgaard, Mikey Moore and - whisper it - Youssef Chermiti are making pleasing impacts.

They've helped Rangers rack up the points to leave stuttering Celtic in their sights today.

But there may be a way to go to convince the fans they're proper Rangers players ready to deliver a title-winning season.

Ex-Rangers chief scout Neil Murray, a Treble winner in 1993, knows exactly the type of player required to cut it at Ibrox.

And after a rotten start under Russell Martin, he wonders if those signings are through the worst of it, emerging stronger - and wiser - for riding out that early storm.

Today at Parkhead, after all their struggles, one might just conjure a magic moment to transform how they're regarded at Rangers forever.

Murray noted: “It's a steep learning curve coming to Rangers from different environments.

“When you play in, say, the English Championship you play 46 games.

“It's expected that you might lose 15 or 16 of them and still have a good season.

“That's okay, people accept that. But that’s not accepted at Rangers or Celtic.

“These players have come to Rangers this season and, maybe, they've actually gone through that.

“They've learned the demands are high but didn't know how to react to it in the early stages.

“Now they know what to expect and are a bit more used to a backlash for poor performances or bad results.

“Maybe they've just got a bit more of an edge about them now, where they can handle that better.

“The necessity to win games is maybe starting to sink in.

“Look at Fernandez, who wasn't an automatic starter.
