'They headed into the mountains not knowing about storm warning'

RESCUERS WERE LEFT DEALING WITH 'AVOIDABLE CALLOUTS'

A RESCUE team has again been left frustrated by walkers heading into the Eryri mountains unprepared. Over a 30-hour period, its volunteers were summoned three times for what they said were "avoidable callouts".

All three occurred during stormy conditions earlier this month.

This saw an extended period of bad weather in which walkers failed to realise a storm was forecast or, if they did, headed out unprepared.

The first example cited by Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation (OVMRO) was in the Carneddau mountains on September 15.

A team spokesperson said: "Having checked the weather the week before, two friends set out at 15.00 with the intention of camping on the summit of Carnedd Dafydd not knowing about the storm warning.
