'Staggering' Jaguar driver forced a police officer to brake hard to avoid crash

A POLICE officer had to brake hard to avoid a head-on crash with a drink driver.

Ian Sullivan had tailgated another car as well as going into the opposite lane during the incident on Anglesey.

The 63-year-old, of Abbey Road, Llandudno, admitted a string of motoring offences.

A judge at Mold Crown Court yesterday spared him immediate imprisonment.

The court heard Sullivan had been travelling in his Jaguar car from the Four Crosses area just outside Menai Bridge on Anglesey towards Benllech on May 4 last year.

Another driver on the A5025 near Pentraeth said he had been tailgating her, beeping and driving erratically. At times the Jaguar car was on the opposite lane, she said.

She had become concerned there could be an accident and rang North Wales Police, the court heard. Near Moelfre a police officer, who had been alerted, had to “brake hard and take evasive action” to avoid a head-on collision, said Ryan Rothwell, prosecuting.
