Six horses in 'dreadful' condition put to sleep

The horses were found in 'dreadful' conditions RSPCA

A MAN has been banned from keeping horses for 10 years after six found in "dreadful" conditions had to be put to sleep at a North Wales farm.

Edward Caulfield, 44, of Bryn Place, Llay, near Wrexham, also received a 16-week prison sentence, which was suspended for 18 months, after he was prosecuted by the RSPCA.

A statement by the RSPCA said: "Six equines were found in such poor health at Yr Ackery Farm at Dark Lane, Rossett, near Wrexham, that they were all later put to sleep to end their suffering.

"Caulfield pleaded guilty to six offences under the Animal Welfare Act 2006 and when he appeared for sentencing at Wrexham Magistrates' Court on October 21 he was also ordered to complete 10 Rehabilitation Activity Requirement (RAR) days, undertake 230 hours of unpaid work and pay costs of £2,122.68.
