NEWCOMERS HAVE JUST 11TH HIGHEST PAYROLL IN CHAMPIONSHIP

- By LIAM RANDALL

THE Championship is widely regarded as the wealthiest non-top-flight division in global football, with parachute payments and a lucrative TV deal providing huge revenues for clubs.

Second tier sides also boast high match attendance figures, generating significant matchday income. It’s therefore no surprise that the annual wage bills of the 24 teams in the Championship are pretty high, as they compete for a place in the Premier League.

Wrexham were promoted to the division in April and are currently one of two Welsh clubs, alongside Swansea, after Cardiff were relegated last season.

The Red Dragons have spent big to achieve three consecutive promotions under the ownership of Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac (pictured right).

During previous campaigns, Wrexham have often been among the top spenders in terms of player salaries.

‘There has generally been an assumption that this would be the case again in the Championship.
